Mergers and Acquistions
Interesting. Tis the season to buy brands and companies it seems.
By far one of the most efficient and visually lossless codecs, the Cineform family, will now be known as "GoPro Cineform." Not entirely sure how a manufacturer of $300 consumer video cameras will integrate professional level compression schemes but we'll just have wait and see. The good news is that Cineform 3D is headed to the upcoming GoPro 3D. That's music to my ears as I have several small projects I'm planning on using the cameras for.
Here's another one -
Ikan has acquired the Cinemage line of evaluation monitors from Cinetal.
I'm not sure if they're taking over the manufacture as well or if the panels will continue to be made as they currently are. Not much info on this other than the Cinemage monitors are already listed on Ikan's site as a certifiable Ikan product.
Ikan in my mind has always been more synonymous with "economy" as opposed to "quality." Cinemage series of monitors were some of the highest quality displays available and there are many DIT's out there who built their carts around them. It will be interesting to see what happens to this brand in the next year of two.
